Top 6 Walking Trails in Charlotte

Charlotte summers take hot girl walks to a whole other level (iykyk). But walking is one of my favorite activities, so the show must go on whether it’s 100 degrees or not! Here are my top 6 walking trails in the Queen City.

1. Four Mile Creek Greenway: Charlotte, NC

  • Wooded 4-mile trail (hence the name), great for walking, running or biking.

  • Much of the trail has a boardwalk that spans wetlands.

  • Lots of wildlife—look out for hawks and herons!

  • I usually walk the stretch between Johnston Rd. and Rea Rd.

Jetton Park, Cornelius, NC

2. Jetton Park: Cornelius, NC

  • Head north of Charlotte to Cornelius to find this 104-acre park.

  • A mixture of concrete and dirt paths surrounding Lake Norman.

  • Includes picnic areas, a small beach area, tennis courts and playgrounds.

  • I love to relax on the beach and take in the stunning lake views.

McDowell Nature Preserve, Charlotte, NC

3. McDowell Nature Preserve: Charlotte, NC

  • 1,132 protected acres of trails bordering the banks of Lake Wylie.

  • Complete with 10 different trail routes for various difficulty levels and views.

  • Several public boat ramps at the nearby Copperhead Island.

  • Stop for lunch at the picnic tables, or stay the night in their campgrounds.

Seven Oaks Preserve Trail, Belmont, NC

4. Seven Oaks Preserve Trail: Belmont, NC

  • 4.6-mile loop trail that meanders along Lake Wylie.

  • Popular for hiking, birding and running.

  • Perfect for a peaceful day away from the city.

  • Head into the adorable towns of Belmont or McAdenville afterwards to eat and explore.

5. Little Sugar Creek Greenway: Charlotte, NC

  • Massive trail with 6 completed sections, spanning nearly 12 miles with further expansion planned.

  • Connects many different parks and shopping and dining areas.

  • Great for biking and walking your dog.

  • Tip: Hop on behind Park Road Shopping Center and follow the trail all the way to Freedom Park!

Freedom Park, Charlotte, NC

6. Freedom Park: Charlotte, NC

  • One of Charlotte’s first public parks built to honor WWII veterans.

  • 0.8-mile loop trail with a pond between the Dilworth and Meyers Park neighborhoods.

  • Connects with Little Sugar Creek Greenway by Park Road Shopping Center.

  • Popular for picnics and photoshoots.
